Stockholm, 14.05.2025, 2025
In the heart of Stockholm’s booming AI ecosystem, Solace Care launches with a bold mission: to redefine how society navigates loss. Founded in January 2025 by Valtteri Korkiakoski and Josef Karakoca, alumni of Mindler, one of Sweden’s fastest-scaling digital health startups, Solace Care is not just another AI company. It’s a declaration of intent to transform the emotional and logistical experience of death.
Valtteri, a medical doctor and former co-founding CEO of Medified (acquired by Mindler in 2022), and Josef, previously VP of Engineering at Mindler, bring a powerful mix of digital services and deep technical expertise. Their track record in building and scaling digital health platforms gives them a unique lens on how to tackle one of the most underserved and stigmatized areas in healthcare and insurance: death.
“We raised a few eyebrows when we said we’re dedicating the next chapter of our career to ‘death-tech’,” says CEO Valtteri Korkiakoski. “But we’re drawn to the real-world challenges others shy away from. These deeply human experiences deserve more innovation and attention.”
Based out of Founders House, Stockholm’s leading hub for ambitious AI startups, Solace Care is surrounded by a community of visionaries working at the intersection of next generation tech and real-world impact. It’s a fitting home for a company redefining legacy services with a fresh and bold approach.
The platform itself is powered by AI and designed to personalize guidance for end-of-life planning and people experiencing loss, by adapting to their personal preferences, unique situation, and specific needs.
“Our first customers range from traditional funeral homes seeking to extend digital offerings to insurance companies looking to offer more holistic support for their customers,” says CTO and co-founder Josef Karakoca.
Solace Care has secured SEK 3 million in a convertible round right after incorporation led by notable industry names, reflecting strong early traction and belief in its market potential:
Additionally, Amalie Angelskår, former CEO at Cutters, following CMO and CRO at Mindler and currently CCO at Meela, joins the company as a commercial advisor and board member.
“Solace Care addresses a major gap in the insurance space with a digital platform that combines practical and emotional support in underserved end-of-life services ,” says Caroline Farberger. “Their innovative model has the potential to transform bereavement care in insurance and beyond, and I’m proud to support this vision.”
Traditional life insurance has lost appeal as younger consumers prefer wealth management options, leaving nearly half underinsured. To stay relevant, insurers must offer flexible, portable solutions for today’s workforce (Bain & Company, 2025).
According to Accenture, 89% of policyholders globally expect more holistic support from their providers, beyond just financial payouts. Yet only 28% of insurers currently offer any form of bereavement services alongside claims handling (Deloitte Insights, 2022).
In Sweden, over 50% of adults have life insurance, but few have access to meaningful emotional or logistical support during bereavement (Finansinspektionen & SCB, 2022).
Demonstrating early product-market fit, Solace Care has announced its first customer partnership with Försäkringsutveckling AB, a company dedicated to developing innovative insurance solutions.
“Partnering with Solace Care allows us to offer our clients a more human-centered approach to insurance,” says Stefan Örljung, Partner, Försäkringsutveckling AB. “Their platform aligns perfectly with our mission to modernize and humanize the sector.”
“ Life Insurance is a commodity product and the value proposition has stayed largely the same for decades,” says Korkiakoski. “We’re introducing a digital platform that meets a real human need that extends the value proposition beyond the financial safety net. We are here to change the industry standard for the better.”
